Better Breakfast Month

Did you know that September is national Better Breakfast Month? Well, it is, and for good reason! Most people have heard the saying “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” and yet breakfast is the most commonly skipped meal (“More Than Half of Americans Skip Breakfast at Least Once a Week, Study Says”). The most common reason people skip breakfast seems to be either not feeling hungry in the morning or being too busy to stop and have a meal. 

We here at Indian River Select take our breakfast seriously! Let us enlighten you as to why; Research has shown that eating breakfast jump-starts your metabolism, balances blood sugar levels, assists in weight management, even promotes heart health and improves cognitive function. In addition, consuming a healthy breakfast also helps you burn more calories throughout the day. This is because when you skip breakfast your body gets a message to conserve any incoming calories instead of burning them (“Why You Should Eat Breakfast” “This is the Best Time to Eat Breakfast According to a Dietician”). Skipping breakfast is linked to overeating later in the day. If you pass on breakfast, you may feel totally zapped of energy which makes you more likely to eat more at other meals. Not to mention, no one wants to be “hangry” first thing in the morning.
