We all know how stressful the holidays can be. One of the best ways to avoid stress during this time is to simply stay healthy, by eating right and drinking 100% Indian River Select Fruit Juice. Don’t let stress be the culprit for illness this holiday season. Learn a few tricks to help you handle the pressures of the holidays from our guest blogger.
Each year we resolve to make this holiday season more enjoyable, which translates to less stressful. These 6 S’s will help you de-stress during the holidays (as well as other times):
Before you start running around, responding to invitations, shopping, and more you want to stop and take time to get yourself organized. Sit down with a cup of tea or coffee, a pencil (not pen) and pad, and put on soothing music. Fully exhale and then take a deep breath from your belly. Hold the breath for 2-3 seconds. Repeat that cycle 3X.
This is what is frequently called a “brain dump.” List everything you want to do and need to do as you think of it. Don’t worry about prioritizing or categorizing. Empty your mind as completely as possible before you sort your tasks. On the next page create your first category, for example, “gifts to purchase.” Below that copy anything from your “brain dump” page that fits into that category. Erase those items from the dump! The idea is to examine your mental inventory and then create a system for managing it. Keep your categories broad, usually no more than 5.
Once you have managed the brain dump and sorted tasks into your categories you can begin to schedule time to do these tasks. It only happens if you make the time to do it! Ideally, you want to look at when you need to get the task done by, and then work backwards to schedule time well before the due date.
You are probably asking yourself, who has time for that? Well one of the best ways to rejuvenate and reduce stress is to be well-rested. Commit to a regular sleep regimen so that you go to bed and wake up on a consistent schedule every night and day.
It’s the old oxygen mask credo; put yours on first. Everyone is depending upon you, which means you need to take care of yourself, too. That means scheduling time for regular exercise, keeping healthy snacks in the house, and an occasional reward for yourself like a massage!
One of the best ways to relax is to have fun, laugh, and be with people who you enjoy spending time with. Find creative ways to socialize such as going for a walk with a friend you haven’t seen in awhile, or taking a relative to a movie so that you can discuss it over lunch. Meet a networking buddy at a gallery or museum and find out more about one another.
